Galway City:
 Is a vibrant university city
renowned for it's Festivals, Music, Theatre. Archaeological sites, Golf courses, Rivers, Lakes and the Aran Islands, they all combine to make this county a magical place. It is often considered to be the 'Cultural Capital of Ireland', and is world renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals, celebrations and events.   Like most Irish cities there is a large traditional music scene which is kept alive in pubs and street performers, where everyone is a "friend".  In 2004, there were three dance organisations, ten festival companies, two film organisations, two Irish language organisations, 23 musical organisations, twelve theatre companies, two visual arts groups and four writers' groups based in the city.
Connemara:
The
Connemara Gaeltacht (An Irish speaking area to the north west) is dominated by the Twelve Bens and is a delight to explore.  Nowhere else are the clouds so much part of the landscape, and all is untouched by time.  The welcome is heartwarming, the quality of life, people and land-scape are all there to be enjoyed by all.  The Periwinkle is delighted to help you make the most of your time in Galway and as such have compiled a guide to help you plan your entire trip here.
Climate:
Galway  like the whole of Ireland, experiences a year-round mild, moist and changeable climate, due to the prevailing winds and the Gulf Stream. It does not have temperature extremes.   Temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F) and above 30 °C (86 °F) are rare, though not unheard of, It also receives an average of 1,147 mm (45.2in) of rain annually, which is evenly distributed throughout the year  Galway is able to support plant life not usually found at such high latitudes (51* - 55*N) such as palm trees and even fig tree.
Due to its north-westerly location,  it boasts long Summer days, with  daylight at around 04:00 and not getting truly dark until after 23:00 on a good summers day during the midsummer period; however, the opposite is true in midwinter, when daylight does not truly start until 09.00, and is gone by 17:00 or even earlier on a wet day.
