Restaurants We have no shortage of excellent restaurants in Galway to suit every taste and price range. Many of them will have their Menu and prices on display outside. "Pub Grub" is served in many pubs during the day but few if any serve food in the Bar at night.
The Galleon in Salthill 091 522963 is very child
friendly, reasonable and good portions.
Da Tang Noodle House in Middle St 091 561443 has huge bowls of steaming and tasty
noodles at a price to suit the most light pocket and never disappoints.
Cactus Jack’s on Courthouse Lane (off Quay St. 0 91 563838 specialises in Tex-Mex
food, also has great burgers, and serves good sized portions at a
reasonable price. Always busy, so you may need to book at weekends. http://www.cactus-jacks.net/
Spud Murphy's in Abbeygate
St 091
569616 pays homage to the potato, with big
floury baked spuds served with a wide choice of delicious fillings making a cheap
and cheerful meal. They also do a full Irish Breakfast which is popular on
Sunday mornings with Galwegians recovering from the night before.
McDonaghs Fish Restaurant in Quay St 091 565001 or
Conlon’s on Eglinton Street 091 562268 are both excellent fish restaurants where
you can eat in the restaurant or choose a takeaway. Both have particularly
fresh and delicious fish. http://www.mcdonaghs.net/
McSwiggins in Woodquay 091 568917 is hard to beat foror good quality
but inexpensive pub food The restaurant
upstairs in a little pricier, but still excellent value.

No visit to Galway is complete without at least one visit to Goya’s
Café on Kirwins lane. 091 567010 They serve good lunches but their range of home baked breads,
pastries and cakes will have you returning to indulge, guiltily, far more often
than you should! http://www.goyas.ie/
Middle Range
Nimmo's at the Spanish Arch 091 561114 is a wine bar which specialises in
seafood so fresh it nearly jumps off the plate, but there is plenty for meat
lovers too. This is as good a spot for a romantic dinner as it is for a night
out with a group of friends. Good value.
The Thai Restaurant at the Spanish Arch is escellent
Schooners above the Aquarium in Salthill, 091 580734/5 offers spectacular views across Galway Bay especially when the
sun is setting. The food and
atmosphere here is excellent. They also
offer an Early Bird Menu which I highly recommend.
Da Roberta Upper Salthill 091 585808 is a little piece of Italy on
Ireland's west coast and serves excellent Pizza and Past as well as more
elaborate Italian dishes.
A BIT MORE PRICEY
Malt House, on Quay Street 091 567866 just off High St, is a long
established restaurant with a traditional menu that may seem a little dull to
read but is exceptionally well cooked and served with style. You just know it
will never let you down. Oscars. on Upper Dominic St 091 582180 on Upper Dominic St is quite a
shocker when you walk through the door, with its red and black decor, tented
fabric ceiling and zebra patterned seating. Stick with it though, because the
food, with a slightly Asian twist, is really very good and is every bit as
exuberant as the surroundings. http://www/oscarsgalway.com/
Park Restaurant on Foster Street is
always dependable. A wide menu to
choose from esceptionally well cooked and presented and has a lovely atmosphere
O’Grady’s on Kirwins Lane 091 perfect for that special night out. Delicious
food beautifully presented.
Vina Mara on Middle Abbey St., 091 561610 takes locally sourced ingredients and cooks them in a very
successful Mediterranean style. The surroundings are cheerful and welcoming and
it's the sort of place that puts you in a good mood.
